St. Thomas, USVI – Day 21
Got a chance to go to the new site today up at the armory. It’s a bit of a ride from our main camp. Not so much in distance, but traffic. Same thing there, building more tents. Of course, though, we’re still waiting for the rest of that kit to come in. We have everything except the soft (zipper) doors that go on the back of the tents. Yesterday they box was supposed to be here tomorrow. Today it’ll be here tomorrow. Taking bets on whether or not it will ‘be here tomorrow’ tomorrow. Continue reading “It’ll Be Here Tomorrow”
St. Thomas, USVI – Day 20
I was on the backhoe again this morning, and yes, it’s still beeping. I actually remembered to bring my headphones this time so at least I could drown it out a little better than with just ear plugs. I cleared out one pile and went to start on another, but we didn’t take much of the second one as it was full of junk and debris. Not exactly what you want when you’re trying to build a road and paths. Hopefully we can get some more rock from the local contractor. Continue reading “Back[hoe] At It”
St. Thomas, USVI – Day 19
So today we got back to it. On the upside though we had breakfast. Scrambled eggs, sausage, and some kind of chicken gravy potato thing. It was nice just to have hot food. Yes, you can heat MREs, but it’s not quite the same. Continue reading “Back to the Grind”

I love Ferris Buler’s Day Off as much as the next guy, but let’s be honest, he does exhibit some low level psychopathy. In fact, in an earlier version of the film he actually cons his father into revealing where he’s stashed some savings bonds, breaks into the lock box, and steals them to fund said day off. Really glad they cut that scene. Would have made the film a lot darker.
Our day off had significantly less museums and sausage kings. But it was still a day off. Continue reading “Red Horse’s Day Off”
St. Thomas, USVI – Day 17
For after seven more days, I will send rain on the earth forty days and forty nights; and I will blot out from the face of the land every living thing that I have made.

St. Thomas, USVI – Day 16
When the rains come, they come. Occasionally there will be light drizzle, but usually the sun is out and it’s refreshing. But when it rains, boy does it rain. Continue reading “Busy Bee”

A few ideas popped into my head about what I was going to write about today, but I made the mistake of not writing them down when I thought of them so I have, obviously, forgotten them. Continue reading “I Thought We Were Having Chicken?”
St. Thomas, USVI – Day 14
It is bright here. Like insanely bright. St. Thomas sits 18.3° north of the equator. For reference Cleveland sits at 41.5°N. So that’s about 23° further south than I’m used to being. Going from the much darker tents to outside actually hurts if you’re not wearing sunglasses. Continue reading “Shine Bright Like a Diamond”
St. Thomas, USVI – Day 13
Actually counting the days via these posts has helped keep time in some sort of perspective. For the most part, though, that perspective is “Woah, has it really been 13 days?!” coupled with “Woah, has it only been 13 days?!” You can see the issue here. Continue reading “Taco Tuesday”
