Back to the Grind

St. Thomas, USVI – Day 19

So today we got back to it. On the upside though we had breakfast. Scrambled eggs, sausage, and some kind of chicken gravy potato thing. It was nice just to have hot food. Yes, you can heat MREs, but it’s not quite the same.

You will have noticed by now that I’ve been posting posts. If I wander out into the field a little more I can pick up some WiFi. So at least now I am somewhat keeping up with the agreement.

Things have dried out so it’s a lot less mucky. I spent a good portion of the day in a backhoe loading a dump truck with rock that we then used to extend our road and build more paths.

I hate that backhoe.

While the backhoe is not my most favorite piece of equipment (I would much rather use an excavator or a loader) this particular one is particularly terrible. It’s insanely difficult to shift in to gear, the breaks are barely adequate and half of the switches don’t even work. However, I could live with all those deficiencies with one notable exception: the backup beep will not stop beeping. Forward, neutral, reverse, doesn’t matter. It beeps. Nonstop. All the time. No matter what.

I hate that beep.

There is still plenty of rock to get so chances are I’ll be in it again tomorrow.

Where are you going? Where have you been?
