Last night I showered. Very nice to feel clean considering the rain, heat, and mud. Probably the greatest pleasure of the day was when we were done and I got back in the tent and took my boots off to let my feet dry. There’s a little shop down the street, I’ll have to see if I can get some Gold Bond there.
We also found out that there is another hurricane heading this way. Right now it’s just a tropical storm, but I guess it’s expected to pick up. Last night the plan was to halt work today, with the exception of a few maintenance items, and then only put up tents if there were people here to put in them. This afternoon we found out that there are, in fact, no plans for evac and we’re going to ride it out here. Should be fun.
Not a lot happened today. We ended up putting up two more tents for some more people that were here. There were some other guys working on getting the laundry finalized, but those were about the big items for the day.
The colonel who has been our liaison here showed us how to properly open coconuts
This is the first time I’ve had fresh coconut, and actually the first time I’ve had coconut straight from the coconut. I quite like it. Was also the first thing I’ve eaten that wasn’t out of an MRE. Oh yeah, by the way, our food supply is MREs. Three meals a day. There are some services people here, but these DRBS kits don’t have kitchen supplies so they have nothing to cook on. So MREs it is. I’ve come across a few that are particularly good. Maybe I’ll start writing my review of the different varieties. Might be the only thing I have to write about depending on how long this storm lasts.
